Giving back with the PBA heavyweights

August 1, 2017

A PBA legend and a few all-star players dropped by STI Academic Center Las Piñas to give back to the survivors of the Brgy. Daniel Fajardo fire.

STI College – Las Piñas together with the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) collaborated to bring relief goods to the Barangay Daniel Fajardo fire victims on Monday, July 31, 2017, at STI Academic Center Las Piñas.

Tragedy struck the barangay on July 19, 2017, when fire broke out at midnight and affected 34 houses, leaving over 60 homeless families in its wake.

The PBA team led by the PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa, PBA Media Bureau Chief Willie Marcial, PBA President/CEO Rickie Santos, and PBA Marketing Officer-In-Charge Pita Dobles provided the stricken community members with a bucket filled to the brim with food and basic necessities.

NLEX Road Warriors’ stars Juami Tiongson and Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Coach Yeng Guiao, and PBA legend Alvin Patrimonio made special appearances and even encouraged the community to stay strong amidst their hardships.

Lagi po nating isipin ang good side ng buhay. Ang mahalaga ay kung papaano natin haharapin ang kasalukuyan. Lagi tayong magdasal at huwag natin Siyang kalimutan

In response, the survivors were grateful for the thought and thankful for the chance to meet their basketball idols. To quote a member of the Barangay Daniel Fajardo community:

Maraming salamat dahil malaking tulong na po ito sa amin.

It just goes that efforts like these can mean a lot when you dedicate it for the welfare of the community.

*Special thanks to Jay B. Martin of STI College – Las Piñas for the story.
