NBA Madness at STI

Kicking off an afternoon full of fun and excitement, the Orlando Magic Dancers set the dance floor of the STI Academic Center Gymnasium on fire when they showed- off their dance routines to their spectators during the NBA Madness Philippines 2011 campus tour last September 29, 2011 at the STI Academic Center, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

 

 

 

 

The campus tour is part of the 3-day Team Spirit School Tour aimed to promote basketball in a fun and interactive way. It was also a once in a lifetime opportunity for the STI College Olympians Pep Squad to be trained by and dance with the world-class Orlando Magic Dancers. On the other hand, basketball enthusiasts together with the STI College Olympians Basketball Team took part in this unique NBA experience as they showed their playing prowess in the center court games, 3- point shoot outs, and other basketball skills challenges that measured their potential in playing the well-loved sport.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mhel Garrido, STI Officer-in-Charge for Sports Development, shares that, “We are very happy that the NBA selected us to be part of their campus tour because it is STI’s thrust to encourage its students to engage in sports. Their interest in athletics would boost their confidence, strengthen their values of sportsmanship and teamwork, and promote a healthy lifestyle.”

 

Simultaneously happening are activities including autograph sessions, group interactions, and photo opportunity while some of the Orlando Magic Dancers inspired the STI Olympians to value their talents and skills and to keep on believing that with hard work — everything is possible.

 

Now on its 8th year, the NBA Madness Philippines is an ongoing program of NBA Cares, the league’s official global community initiative that strives to positively impact children and families worldwide.

 

The weeklong basketball festival, which started on September 28, 2011, will culminate in a mall event on October 2 at the SM Mall of Asia and will highlight the participation of other NBA stars including Clyde “The Glide” Dexter and the Portland Trailblazers Dancers.
