STI Foundation Awarded Operating License by DSWD

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) granted a registration certificate to STI Foundation as an Auxiliary Social Welfare and Development Agency (SWDA) last June 28 at the DSWD Central Office, Batasan Pambansa Complex in Quezon City.

SWDA certifications are issued by the DSWD to agencies/organizations engaged in social welfare and development activities, which have complied with the statutory requirements to operate set by the DSWD. Republic Act 4373 requires NGOs and government entities "utilizing social work methods and interventions to secure a license from the DSWD before they can operate as a social work/social welfare and development agency."

STI Foundation falls under the Resource Agency category, providing scholarship grants, outreach programs, and mobile school services in partnership with government and non-government organizations.

According to DSWD Director Ester Acebedo-Versoza, when an agency is granted a license, it becomes eligible for accreditation which is the proof that an NGO delivers the basic program and services that are within the standards set by government through the DSWD.

STI Foundation Director Bambi Asis-Geronimo shares, "It is an honor for the foundation to earn this license as this serves as an acknowledgement that STI Foundation fully operates on high level of standards and services set by a reputable government unit such as the DSWD. On top of that, our license has a nationwide coverage, a privilege not given to all agencies which apply for an SWDA certification. This means that we can conduct outreach projects and extend our services, which will benefit more and more Filipinos, across the country."
