STI supports DOLE in 2nd nationwide job fair

With the success of last year's Jobapalooza, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), in cooperation with STI and other private sectors, will conduct its second nationwide job fair called "Jobs Live!" on May 01, 2010.

L-R: Avito Sto. Tomas (Assistant Regional Director of DOLE NCR), John B. Tubongbanua (VP for Corporate Information Services of STI), Lourdes Transmonte (DOLE Undersecretary and Chairperson of the 2010 Labor Day Committee), Amiel C. Sangalang (VP for Comptrollership of STI).

Tagged as the biggest job fair in the Philippines to date, DOLE announced in a press conference held last April 8 that Jobs Live! will be held simultaneously in several areas nationwide including SMX Convention Center, SM Megamall, SM San Lazaro, SM Southmall, South Seas Mall in Cotabato City, Kidapawan City Gymnasium in North Cotabato, Protech Center in Koronadal City and Sta. Clara in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat from 9.00am to 5.00pm. A total of 16 regions, including the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, will participate in the said event.

Now in its second year of partnering with DOLE's job fair program, STI will be in charge of pre-registration from April 26 to 30 on top of providing high-tech computer equipment on the event day itself. Jobseekers may visit any STI campus within Metro Manila wherein they will be assisted in accomplishing the online form which will consequently help job seekers to be pre-matched to the various job opportunities available even before the actual day of the job fair.

This year's theme aptly titled "Manggagawang Pilipino, Kaagapay sa Pagbabago," emphasizes the important role that Filipino workers play in nation building. Jobs Live! has approximately 100,000 overseas employment opportunities and 60,000 vacancies for local employment and still counting. Participating countries include Qatar, Kuwait, Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, Brunei, Bahrain, Macau, Oman, and Singapore.

Apart from providing job opportunities, Jobs Live! will also showcase livelihood programs and skills training from DOLE, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and various labor organizations led by the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines. A one-stop shop system will also be implemented to help applicants secure pre-employment documentation requirements conveniently from various agencies including the Department of Foreign Affairs, Bureau of Internal Revenue, National Statistics Office, Social Security System, and Philhealth.
