STI partners with South Border for scholarship program

Having been in the limelight of the music industry for the past 10 years, South Border has grown into a more seasoned band that can now afford to let their artistic juices flow with no fear. Bur their dedication to the craft is not only about making socially relevant songs for the Filipinos. It is also about social responsibility, more specifically in helping promote the importance of education to the Filipino youth.

Jay Durias, South Border’s keyboardist and musical director, believes in the importance of education. “In this business you wouldn’t know how long you’d be in the limelight. So it is very important that you are well-educated so you’ll have a fallback when things don’t go the way you planned it.”

In keeping with the band’s idea of promoting social awareness for education, the band recently entered into a partnership agreement with STI Education Services Group, through the STI Foundation, to help launch the South Border Scholarship Program. This undertaking hopes to provide 1.8 million pesos worth of scholarship grant for the Filipino youth nationwide.

Administrators from STI local schools will choose scholars through the recommendation of local offices where the concert of South Border will take place. Several students from every province in the country will be chosen to avail of STI scholarships.

“We were very flattered that STI showed interest on supporting our undertaking,” said Vincent Alaras, the band’s lead vocalist. “We were delighted with the willingness of STI to provide free education for thousands of well-deserving Filipino youth nationwide”.

To assist in STI’s free education program, South Border has committed to contribute a certain percentage of their album sales to the STI Foundation. This means that anyone purchasing an Episode III CD actually contributes to the Foundation. The awarding of the scholarship grants will take place during some of the “Rainbow Tour” of South Border nationwide.
