STI provides learning beyond classroom
STI, the country's largest network of colleges, recently kicked off its annual academic student competition, which is part of the celebration of its 21 st anniversary. Dubbed as "Tagisan ng Talino 2004", the contest aims to recognize STI students’ knowledge and skills in computer theories and applications, website design, literature, digital arts expertise, mathematical skills and communication skills.
“Tagisan ng Talino is being organized yearly to showcase the academic skills of STI students nationwide and help strengthen their social awareness on the importance of education,” said Peter Fernandez, senior vice president of STI’s Education Management Division. “Through this activity, we hope to inspire our students to achieve excellence at par with the global standards.”
This year’s competition is composed of eight categories. These categories include Into Programming (computer programming); IT Matters (computer applications); Gifts and Tags (website design); A Tale to Tell (short story telling); Stand Up and Deliver (impromptu speech); Math Factor (Math quiz); Essay Does It! (Essay writing); and the Digital Arts (digital design).
The “Tagisan ng Talino” is classified into two: senior and junior levels. The senior level competition is to be participated in by group of students from STI Colleges offering four-year degree programs. The junior level is to be participated in by students coming from STI Education Centers offering two-year programs.
Aside from academic competitions, STI also organized various social competitions called “Tagisan ng Galing”. This activity aims to develop well-rounded STI students by giving them opportunity to showcase their talents. The contest includes PaziklaBands ( Battle of the Bands); OPM Solo Singing Competition; Hataw Sayaw Group Dancing Contest; and Mr. & Ms. STI 2004.
The culmination of the contest and awarding of winners will be held on August 21, 2004 at Aliw Theatre in Star City.
