STI @21: The Renaissance
Manila, Philippines – August 20, 2004 — On August 21, twenty-one years ago, a man was gunned down as he descended from the plane that brought him home after 3 years of exile. That man was Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., and his death would later on serve as a catalyst that would help give back to the Filipino people the freedom that was, and is rightfully, theirs. On that same historic day, Systems Technology Institute or STI was born.
Fast forward to the present. After many years, STI has evolved into a bigger and better IT school envisioned by its founding members – Edgar Sarte, Augusto Lagman, Herman Gamboa and Benjamin Santos. Starting with just three IT training centers in 1983, STI now has more than 100 schools here and abroad. With 20 schools offering a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, STI now boasts of having the largest network of nursing colleges in the Philippines.
STI's owes its rapid transformation to its undying passion for providing quality education services to its students, and its ability to adapt quickly to changes in its environment. Coupled with the institution's revitalized vision of going beyond ICT, beyond education, and beyond the Philippines in the 21st century, these qualities give STI a truly unique value proposition.
Beyond ICT
With the flexibility to adapt to the demanding needs of the times, STI has expanded beyond Information and Communications Technology by offering IT-enhanced courses in Business, Education, Engineering and Healthcare. And with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)'s recent approval and accreditation of nursing courses in 20 of its campuses nationwide, STI is also now considered as the largest network of nursing colleges in the country. Using its strength in computer education, STI integrates ICT education in its Nursing programs to make nursing professionals even more competitive in the modern environment, particularly in healthcare institutions here and abroad.
Beyond education (E2E)
The STI Education Services Group reinvents the human resource value chain through its E2E System, short for Enrolment to Employment, a four-part system that seeks to develop competitive knowledge-based workers.
The E2E system, according to STI president and CEO Monico V. Jacob, "covers every student's needs from the time he enrolls in STI up to the moment he applies for a job."
The E2E system has four major components: Learning Systems Development, which makes sure that STI's program offerings are oriented to existing and future job market conditions. The main task of STI's curriculum developers is to ensure that students learn skills that companies are looking for. To make sure that courses being offered are carried out well, STI implements the Academic Delivery System, which is relayed by a pool of highly qualified faculty and implemented via state-of-the-art facilities across all STI school networks. Shortly before graduation, to prepare the students land jobs they are qualified for, STI offers guarantee quality assurance by making the students go through rigid assessment, evaluation, and Certification Programs. And through the assured Job Placement Assistance Program, STI assures every graduate employment support with the help of Interactive Career Assistance and Recruitment System or I-CARES and premier international placement agencies like the Global Resource for Outsourced Workers, Inc. or GROW.
Beyond the Philippines
As part of its vision to be the best provider of ICT and ICT-enabled education in Asia, STI recently opened two schools in Indonesia in 2003 in partnership with Metrodata, the largest IT company in Indonesia. Two more schools are set to open in Indonesia within the year and in 2005, STI Vietnam will open its door of opportunities for students living in the area. Soon, STI's unique educational system could eventually help develop the youth in more countries throughout Asia.
In the 21st century, as STI goes beyond ICT, beyond Education and beyond the Philippines, the company remains committed to its mission of developing students and the youth -- for them to become valuable and productive contributors to society through innovative ICT and ICT-enabled learning and career planning systems.
