The 11th National Youth Convention Culminates at the Big Dome
More than 10,000 STI students from Metro Manila campuses and outside provinces trooped to the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao Quezon City on February 7, 2006 as the 11th National Youth Convention culminated in one spectacular convergence of youthful exuberance and meaningful presentations. Thousands more students nationwide watched the event live as it happened via webcast on this site. It was the biggest ever gathering for the yearly event organized by STI, the premier ITC oriented school in the country. This year’s partners were Globe Quest/Innove Communication—a wire line voice, private data, and internet connection provider; Bitstop—a Webcast hardware provider and Microdata Management and Systems, Inc.—an authorized distributor of audio visual equipment.
As it went around the country, the convention featured resident host and comedic entertainment Bill Cosme, and is highlighted by three ultra-energetic and engaging guest speakers: Reynaldo Recio Jr., Dennis Evangelista, and Rene Espinosa. The three expounded on their respective topics namely: Mobile Gaming, Entrepreneurship, and Personality Development using innovative techniques and supported by video clips. The three captivated the attention of the youthful audience with their vibrant and spirited delivery. In between their spiels are musical numbers and interactive games that earned cheers and jeers from the crowd. The youthful crowd was thrown into frenzy by one of the hottest band around, Cueshe. They performed five of their current hits for the finale to the delight of the adoring youth. But the fun did not end there as raffle prizes where given away to student ticket holders. A laptop and printer package and a Kodak digital camera topped the list of giveaways.
This year’s theme: "Mission Possible: Shaping Your Future…Today!" aims at making STI students more abreast with the latest trends in various fields covered by the school’s courses, preparing them for the challenges beyond their schooling. The annual spectacle is part of STI’s Enrollment to Employment System or E2E System. This unique offering of the school is a complete approach to human resource development, wherein students are given applicable education, job market skills, job preparedness and job placement assistance. As Mhel Garrido, STI manager puts it, "It is the goal of STI to prepare students to cope with the rapidly evolving world of information technology by providing them a venue for learning outside the classroom. This unconventional approach is STI’s way of providing more learning experience to students that will help them as they set to face their careers."
