STI's International Muay Thai Champ brings home another medal for the Philippines!

Muay Thai champion Romnick Pabalate of STI College – EDSA-Crossing gave pride to the Philippines once again after snagging the bronze medal in the TreX (Traditional Sports, Electronic Sports, and Xtreme Sports)-Games in Busan, South Korea held last September 26 to October 2.

 

Romnick landed third place out of the representatives from 66 countries who participated in the different weight class categories of the Men’s and Women’s Division. Muay Thai is the biggest sport in the TreX Games with over 800 athletes, coaches, and officials from five different continents.

 

The 4th Busan TreX Games was presented by the Trim and Fitness International Sport for All Association (TAFISA), with the theme “Harmony of Tradition and Future for World Peace and Prosperity.” There were 20 different sports and games included in this year’s TreX Games, with Team Philippines participating in the Wushu, Muay Thai, and Dance Sport.

 

With the support of the Philippine Sports Commission, the team is comprised of Beijing Olympics wushu gold medalist Willy Wang, joined by Mary Jane Estimar, Benjie Rivera, Pedro Quina, and Marie Stephanie Agbay; Muay Thai athletes Pabalate, Roland Claro, Jonathan Polosan, Ricalene Aquino, Mary Libao, Maricel Subang, Jay Olod and Jay Harold Gregorio; and Dancesport delegates Filomena Salvador and Melvin dela Serna.

 

Pabalate is the 2007 Asian gold medalist for Muay Thai. He also recently won a bronze medal in the Muay Thai Association and Thailand-sponsored event tagged as the 2008 Prince Cup held in Huamark Bangkok, Thailand.
