STI students to benefit from latest e-learning system acquisition
STI recently inked an agreement with Profiles Asia Pacific, Inc., the authorized sub-distributor of the highly interactive Thompson / Delmar’s online NCLEX-RN Review with Learning Management System, in a serious bid to help produce more competitive nursing professionals in today’s modern healthcare environment.
With the agreement, STI, the Philippines' largest network of nursing colleges, becomes the first educational institution in Asia to use the dynamic and highly interactive online review with its learning management system from Thompson Corp., the world’s leading information resource provider and global leader in lifelong learning solutions.
Developed as a computer adaptive review program that effectively simulates actual testing environment in US licensure exams, the recent partnership to offer the use of said online NCLEX-RN review and learning management system gives STI students a chance to become more at ease in a computerized test environment, and reinforce content learned, thereby boosting their chances of passing the NCLEX-RN as well as the local board examinations.
“This is a significant feature,” says Malcolm Pick, managing director of Profiles Asia Pacific, Inc., “since the actual NCLEX-RN exam is a computerized exam.” The National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses ( NCLEX-RN ) is a computer-based test designed to measure the competency level of newly- licensed individuals or entry-level registered nurses and ensure their capability to perform safely and effectively.
The system combines use of the Internet with a comprehensive interactive study experience containing seven units of materials plus over 2,000 questions and computer logic that simulates the actual NCLEX-RN exam. As such, it may be used as an ideal study tool and test guide for students who wish to work in the US, or as a quick guide and reference for those who would like to re-enter the nursing profession.
To allow teachers and deans to remotely monitor their students’ progress level and learning access patterns, the system has likewise been equipped with an advanced learning management module that’s reflective of current job-related and entry-level practices -- so users can get an actual feel of the whole nursing experience upon completion of the online review course , at their own pace and time.
On the part of STI, the partnership deal is expected to usher in a new learning management system for its 3 rd year and 4 th year nursing students.
Now scheduled for pilot testing at the University of Makati, STI-DLS College of Health Professions Inc. and STI College San Pablo, these schools shall weave the content and e-learning approach of the system into its students’ respective courses, thereby pushing the use of IT enhancements in the learners’ ability to hurdle local and foreign licensure examinations.
“STI has always believed that students should be able to land a job immediately after graduation,” says Reuel Virtucio, Vice President for Academics of STI . “For us, the primary role of a school is to help its students find a job. That’s why we have come up with the Enrollment to Employment (E2E) system which offers competency-based curriculum, standardized academic delivery in 116 network schools, certification programs and employment assistance to our graduates.”
“With the acquisition of this computer-adaptive test program,” he adds, “we feel that our first batch of nursing graduates would be able to perform well in both the Philippine Nursing Board and the US Licensure Examinations after they have adequately been prepared for these tests. With the system in place, STI is also expected to perform better than average nursing schools, scoring no less than 70% passing rate or higher, and become one of the top performing schools.”
With this partnership, STI executives have expressed hope that the same could signal the start of more collaborative efforts towards its goal of providing better quality education. In the meantime, the latest e-learning system acquisition has virtually expanded the capacity of various STI nursing colleges to handle high-tech classes without the need to compromise quality instructions.
For its part, Profiles Asia Inc. has vowed to continue providing the education institution with current, valid and easy-to-use learning systems that may also double as an assessment tool to gauge a student’s readiness for employment.
As it is now, the incorporation of an online NCLEX-RN Review System in STI’s nursing curriculum can be seen as the right step towards further strengthening the education institution’s thrust of making its Enrolment to Employment (E2E) System work more for the benefit of its students.
After all, such efforts are very much in line with the education institution’s goal of producing not only locally competitive but internationally competitive health workers as well.
