STI boosts job placement assistance
Thousands of job seekers troop to the offices of prospective employers only to find out that there are no available jobs or the course and skills they had studied and trained for are not what the prospective employers need. For the Philippines, unemployment is usually highest in April, when fresh graduates join other qualified workers looking for jobs.
Fortunately for STI students and alumni, STI, the country's largest network of colleges, conceptualized an online recruitment management system called Interactive Career Assistance and Recruitment Systemsor I-CARES. The site was created to provide assistance to STI students and alumni in establishing links with prospective employers for both local and foreign employment.
"Our responsibility to our graduates does not end by just providing them with quality education," says Babes Bonoan, Career and Alumni Services manager of the STI Education Services Group. "It is our commitment to value and treasure them and to assist them until they find the much coveted jobs they are looking for."
Bonoan added that STI's Career and Alumni Services unit directly communicates with prospective employees to personally get first-hand information on the job positions and qualifications that the company is looking for. "This way, we will be able to filter the right person fitted to the job based from the job requirements. In doing so, it would be easier for the employer to review their resumes, and eventually go through the process of hiring the person."
Since its inception in August 2003, about 8, 600 resumes have already been posted on the site. I-CARES was created to provide job placement assistance, career planning, job postings, and career counseling to STI alumni nationwide.
Registration is free for all STI alumni and graduating students. For more information, log on to www.i-cares.com.
