STI and Infochat partnership seen to boost learning through television
As part of its strong commitment to continue providing quality education to as many Filipinos as possible, STI, the largest network of colleges in the country today, recently signed a partnership agreement with Infochat, the pioneer IT television program in the Philippines, to deliver high standard ICT education beyond the classroom through a program called "Tech Tutor". Tech Tutor is a 30-minute educational show which will tackle one (1) significant IT topic per month (4 episodes per topic, 1 episode per week), to be aired through Destiny Cable.
Unlike other educational shows, Tech Tutor shall allow viewers to upgrade their computer skills and get certified by simply watching television in the comforts of their own homes. Viewers will be given the opportunity to take validation exams after watching the one-month show of their preferred topic. Those interested to take the validation exam shalle be asked to register via SMS by keying in sti tutor reg name address topic number and send to 230 for Smart subscribers and 2286 for Globe/Sun subscribers . Upon passing the validation exam, the examinees will be given a certificate of completion by STI.
Topics discussed during the initial telecast included Animation in a Flash (topic 1, from November 22 to December 13) and Adobe Photoshop (topic 2, from December 20 to January 5). For the upcoming features this January 24 to February 14, the next topic to be discussed is "Webpage Design" (topic 3). Those interested in "PC Troubleshooting" (topic 4) are encouraged to watch out for a special on this topic from February 21 to March 14. A short course on "Windows Movie Maker" (topic 5) will run from March 21 t o April 11 while "Mobile Applications and Usage" (The Web, topic 6) shall round out the rest of the premier telecast from April 18 to May 2.
Tech Tutor shall initially be aired every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays each month for a period of six (6) months from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM on Destiny Cable, channel 116.
