STI and ABS-CBN : A Powerful Partnership for the Filipino Youth

Once again, STI and ABS-CBN has empowered the Filipino youth to participate in shaping the course of the nation through Halalan 2007.

STI and ABS-CBN, for the 4th time since the partnership was established during the 1998 National Elections has once again brought the largest and most comprehensive election coverage in the country.

The coverage was highlighted by the ABS-CBN and STI Media Count, where over 14,000 student volunteers from STI were assigned in over 22,000 precincts nationwide to provide by-the-hour partial election returns from May 14 to May 15.

By providing another venue for the youth to be involved in nation-building, STI and ABS-CBN shall continue to enjoin young and enlightened students in laying the groundwork for positive change in the country.

A Salute to Our Young Heroes

The 14,000-strong student volunteers of STI displayed a keen sense of responsibility -- taking on the arduous task of monitoring election returns last May 14 and into the early hours of May 15 spread in over 22,000 precincts nationwide.

Dismissing fatigue, the grueling summer heat, lack of sleep and forgoing a relaxing day at home on a national holiday, the STI student volunteers made a difference by choosing to be active participants in Halalan 2007.

The student volunteers admit to the difficulties they encountered going from one busy and crowded classroom to another to monitor partial election returns for more than 12 hours straight, but they are one in saying that their efforts were well worth it.

Being an STI student volunteer entails fulfilling a noble duty towards the country – and it is welcomed by the young volunteers as a chance to strengthen nationalism and demonstrate their commitment towards building better futures for generations to come.
