Interactive e-learning for nurses

JULY 2005

Systems Technology Institute, Inc. (STI) has partnered with Profiles Asia Pacific for the distribution of an interactive review system for nursing students. Profiles Asia is the regional affiliate of the assessment and training program distributor Profiles International, Inc. based in the United States. The two groups signed an agreement that would enable STI to use the Thompson Delmar's On-line NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses) Review's Learning Management System.

The system, a computer adaptive online review program for NCLEX-RN, simulates the actual testing environment for US Licensure examinations. Reuel Virtucio, STI vice-president for Academics, said the system forms part of STI's E2E or enrolment-to-employment system. "The program will ensure the employability of our students in 116 schools nationwide, here and abroad, in line with our goal of producing locally and internationally competitive health workers," Mr. Virtucio said. Profiles Asia president Malcolm Pick said the five-month online program is affordable for those studying nursing and even for registered nurses who want to take licensure examinations overseas. Mary Ann M. Vicentina, STI manager for Academic Research and Assessment, said they expect 1,000 students to use the program this year. NCLEX-RN Online Review will first be used for pilot-testing in the University of Makati, STI-DLS College of Health Professionals, Inc., and STI College San Pablo. The schools will weave the content and e-learning approach of the online review into the course students of their third and fourth year nursing students.
