|STI proclaims winners of annual academic student competition
STI, the country’s largest network of colleges, recently capped the nationwide celebration of its 21 st anniversary with a grand festivity at Star City wherein winners of “Tagisan ng Talino 2004 and “Tagisan ng Galing 2004” were named.
“Tagisan ng Talino 2004” aims to recognize the academic skills and intellectual capabilities of STI students in eight different categories such as computer application, computer programming, numerical drills, website development, short story telling, impromptu speech, and essay writing.
The following are the champions for “Tagisan ng Talino 2004”: a) IT Matters: Ishaaq Cali (Quezon Avenue) – Junior and Mayorico Marasigan (Alabang) – Senior, b) Into Programming: Teddy M. Ilagan, Karen Grace P. Catugo, Edward Philip B. Bola (Tacurong) – Junior and Santy G. Ramirez, Mark F. Silos, Malverio B. Acdog Jr. (Olongapo) – Senior, c) Math Factor: Ishaaq Cali (Quezon Avenue) – Junior and Rannel Erlano (Global City) – Senior, d) GIFs and TAGs: Christian Cosinas and Danilo de Leon (Taft), e) A Tale to Tell: Ivy Joan Equio (Novaliches), f) Stand Up and Deliver: Gladys Jane Guevarra (Southwoods), g) Essay Does It: Dulce Corazon Almendras ( Makati), and h) Digital Arts: Jomer S. Pineda (Angeles).
Aside from these academic-focused competitions, five other contests were held which included a “battle of the bands” contest, singing (solo and duet), dancing and of course, the much-coveted title of “Mr. and Ms. STI 2004”. These contests were aligned to recognize and develop the talents of the students. STI students also showcased their talent in the arts through “Tagisan ng Galing 2004”.
The “Tagisan ng Galing 2004” winners are as follows: a) PaziklaBands: Nelor A. Sualog Jr., Melvin D. Fabian, Timothy C. Archivido, Kenny M. Perez, John L. Manzano, Anthony R. Abasolo (Parañaque), b) OPM Duet: Melchor Balboa and Crisfel Sese (San Fernando), c) OPM Solo: Anthony Abasolo (Parañaque), d) Hataw Sayaw: Ryan Larioza, Ernesto Jao Jr., Nicollete Ellizer D. Omaña, Archie L. Panlaqui, Anthony R. Abasolo, Tomas A. Azurin Jr. (Parañaque), and e) Mr. and Ms. STI 2004: Jerome S. Villarama (Cubao) and Kristine Joy Q. Alina (Lipa).
“Incorporating activities such as Tagisan ng Talino and Tagisan ng Galing in our festivities proved that STI students not only excel in academics but also in the field of performing arts,” said Mel Bravo, STI assistant vice present. “This gives our students a perfect balance in terms of learning, as STI continues to mold them as well-rounded individuals so they may succeed in whatever career they choose in the future.”
