The Tagisan ng Talino is an annual academic competition that aims to:

  1. Showcase the academic quality of STI students per school
  2. Recognize STI students’ knowledge, skills and creativity in various disciplines and their applications, computer programming, web site development, public speaking, communication and writing skills
  3. Inspire STI students achieve excellence at par with global standards
  4. Promote among STI students an awareness on the value of education
  5. Cultivate an atmosphere of academic competitiveness within the school and among STI schools

The competition is composed of the six (6) categories namely:

  • ThinkQuest (Team Quiz Competition)
  • INTO Programming  (Programming Competition)
  • GIFs & TAGs (Web Development Competition) 
  • Stand Up and Deliver  (Impromptu Speech Competition)
  • Speak Your Mind! (Oratorical Competition)
  • Essay Does It! (Essay Writing Competition)

All student contestants in the various competitions must:

  • be enrolled in any of STI’s major program offerings by June 18, 2007 and must still be an on-going student at the time of the competitions
  • have a study load of at least 18 units for CHED programs or full load for semestral  and non-semestral TESDA programs or remaining study loads for graduating students
  • NOT be on his second degree course

  1. The annual Tagisan Ng Talino (academic competition) has a revised copy of clustering for your reference. The clustering aims to group the schools according to classification and proximity among STI branches.
  2. For Think Quest and INTO Programming, the schools classified under the Senior level may also join qualified students in the Junior level. For this purpose, the competition sites are pre-assigned for clusters 1-6 of the Senior level (please refer to Regional clustering). The Cluster Head of the Junior level competition site should ensure that at least four (4) schools will participate. Otherwise, the cluster site may be dissolved. The Cluster Head is responsible in confirming details to STI HQ by sending the names of participating schools.
  3. Only one (1) entry per school may join the Stand Up and Deliver (Impromptu Speech), Speak Your Mind! (Oratorical), Essay Does It! (Essay Writing) and GIFs & TAGs (Web Development) competitions.
  4. Competing students in the school level must fill out an Entry Form and attach a photocopy of their latest registration card together with a recent 2”x2” picture. This must be submitted to the Academic Head for approval.
  5. Winners of the school level competition must submit the accomplished Entry Form to the Cluster Head on or before July 30, 2007. Non-submission of the requirement on or before the deadline means the school will not compete in the regional level competition. 
  6. The Cluster Head in turn, must submit the consolidated copy of the entry forms to STI Headquarters (c/o Flor del Rosario) not later than August 1, 2007. 
  7. Submission date of the GIFs & TAGs entry forms, to STI Headquarters, is stated in the competition mechanics for this particular category.
  8. Winners of the regional level competition must be declared and submitted by the Cluster Head to the assigned STI HQ representative right after the regional competition. Non-submission of the declared winners on the regional competition date itself means they will not compete in the national level competition. The Cluster Head must ensure that all declaration of winners are duly signed and accomplished.
